Welcome Information
You booked your session now what...
I am excited to capture you and your loved ones. My photography is unique because it not only captures what you look like at a certain point in time, it captures who you are. I aim to capture natural photos of your family and your new baby. The goal is not to get a stiff and posed shots with everyone looking at the camera, but to capture the true essence of your family.
Here are a few tips to help you prepare for your session with me.
Location:
My newborn studio sessions are a minimalist session, natural colours and minimal props, its all about your little love, the wrinkles the peeling skin and the little squishy faces they pull, my sessions are babyled posing which means they will have some images taken wrapped up, half wrapped up and also naked. They wont be squished too much into poses or props. I aim to capture they smiles, and scrunched up faces as well as the yawns and crying faces.
You get to select either a white backdrop session or a stunningly soft relaxed session in our lifestyle studio which includes a bed for family snuggles and an egg chair.
My in home sessions are all about the connection of the three of you (+ sibings if any) lots of holding your baby, smelling and loving on them. Some images in their cot and on your bed too.
Time:
The images in my portfolio look the way they do largely because of my use of light and the time of day your session takes place has a huge impact. If we a doing a studio session they take place starting from 10am. If we are shooting in your home, I prefer late morning, because that is when homes are usually lit up the best.
Length Of Session:
Session range from 1-3 hours depending on how your new baby copes with the model life :-)
What To Wear:
Wardrobe should be comfortable and reflect who you are. I do not recommend matching but rather coordinating. Click here for my what to wear guide that can give you an idea of what I am talking about. Click here for some clothing sample images. I am happy to consult you directly on wardrobe you can send me photos of your outfits layed out on your bed if your really not sure. My studio is white so neutrals or pastels work well and my lifestyle studio is also white but with a hint of pink, blue, brown or gray depending on bubs gender.
Props:
I do not use many props during my sessions, however if you have something in mind you would like to include please let me know. You more than welcome to bring along special items for the session. I just need to know what they are and their colour so I can ensure they match the setup on the day.
Siblings and Dad already back at work:
We offer the option of having siblings dropped into the studio for the first or last 30 mins of the session, or a split session. A split session means you and bubs come to the studio for 1-1.5 hours and we concentrated on the baby. Then we meet up for 30 mins another day and we take family photos. This is also a good option if Dad is already back at work before the session takes place. When you have just had a baby and your lacking sleep and energy from feeding and caring for your new baby, let alone recovering from birth a mothers patience can be thin. So I like to make this option known from the beginning so that should bubs arrive and you're worried about how your 2 year old is going to sit still for 2 hour straight in the studio you can message me and express you would like to take this option. If your little one is going to stress you out your baby will likely feel it and possibly be unsettled. Having said that most of the time your kids will worry you a lot more than they will worry me, this is all about making your session as relaxing as we can. Obviously an in home session will be completely different, kids in their own environment will be much more comfortable.
Best time to hold sessions and making your booking:
So my newborn sessions are ideally between 5 – 14 days old. We book you in for around 10 days after your due date and then move the session as we need to depending on when she joins us in this world. My session being baby led posing mean that its not imperative for bubs to be under 14 days, I can also capture older babies. Please be aware I will do my best to capture sleeping images of your older baby but if we are not successful I am sure you will love the awake shots we get. We will wrap bubs but if he/she keeps escaping we will simply dress them in a cute little outfit instead and take lots of snuggle images with you guys.
Babys health and safety:
I am fully immunized including the flu shot and if I or my kids are unwell when we are due to do our session I will reschedule with you, our highest importance if the safety of your little one when she is so fresh in this world. I have 2-3 years experience posing newborns including formal online training for babies safety. And I capture anywhere from 1 – 4 babies per week (I assist a fellow NB photographer as well as my own sessions so I have tons of experience). Should you little one have an major health or physical problems after birth that might affect our session I request a letter of approval from a midwife or maternal health nurse to ensure you and I we are not putting your precious gift in any danger.
What to bring with you to your session:
If you have a special baby blanket that will match the colours you discuss with me for your session.
A little outfit for your bub to wear should we need to dress them for some images (again working in our colour scheme)
Extra milk if your not breastfeeding - I disturb bubs throughout the session so they often feed more often during a session
A dummy if bubs takes one or you don’t mind them taking one
Bribery for other children haha
